An email newsletter can benefit your business in several ways — we discussed this in a previous episode, so tune in to learn more.
So you’re planning to start a newsletter — now how do you get people to join your list? And how do you set it up? To set up your email list, you’ll most likely want to use a service like Mailchimp, Constant Contact or Substack.
Using one of these platforms will help you avoid being flagged as spam, and you can also take advantage of other features like automation. Once your campaign is up and running, it’s a good idea to export your email list every month or so. That way, if you were to lose your account for some reason, you wouldn’t lose all the emails.
Now that you’ve set up your email campaign account, it’s time to grow your email list. There are several ways to do this:
- Add your current clients (with permission — allow them to opt in)
- Put up a sign-up sheet at your brick and mortar location
- Add a sign-up option on your website
- Do a giveaway or lead generator
A lead generator, in basic terms, is something that you give away in exchange for an email address. Providing valuable information for free is a great way to get people to want to get your emails. A good rule of thumb is to provide something worth five dollars. Once they’re opted in, you can then promote your products or services through your campaigns.
