Is GA4 going to cost me money?

Google is sunsetting Universal Analytics, and GA4, the next iteration of Google Analytics, will be the new standard. The main difference between Universal and GA4 is that Universal was session-based, whereas GA4 is event-based.

A session is an active period of time someone spends on your website. An event is when that person takes an action on your website — whether they clicked a button, visited a different page or took another action.

Google Analytics has always been free, and since there’s a new iteration of Analytics, people have been concerned about the possibility of Google charging for GA4. Fortunately, creating a GA4 profile on your Analytics account is totally free!

If you’re an Infomedia client, we’ll walk you through your Analytics report and show you how to decipher it. If you’re interested in learning more about GA4, you can also check out Google’s resources at no charge.

If you still have Universal Analytics set up, it will convert to GA4 as closely as possible. Google will officially replace Universal Analytics with Google Analytics 4 on July 1, 2023, but it’s not a bad idea to start getting familiar with it now. And we’re always here to help, so get in touch with us!
