October in Birmingham…THINK PINK!

October is breast cancer awareness month! For many years, a diagnosis of breast cancer meant 4 out of 5 of those women would lose their battle, but with dedicated community involvement, passionate friends and families, and strategic fundraising, available treatments now mean that a diagnosis of breast cancer means that 4 out of 5 women WIN their battle and can tell their stories as survivors.

October is breast cancer awareness month, and while most of us are more familiar with October for other more well-known reasons (like fall weather and Halloween), October is the month where everything turns pink for the sake of the second most diagnosed cancer in American women.

For many years, a diagnosis of breast cancer meant 4 out of 5 of those women would lose their battle, but with dedicated community involvement, passionate friends and families, and strategic fundraising, available treatments now mean that a diagnosis of breast cancer means that 4 out of 5 women WIN their battle and can tell their stories as survivors.

As many of you know, my mom, Vicki Pocopanni, was diagnosed with breast cancer in July, and we are well into our journey now. Never in my life have I been so thankful to see so much pink and to know that all of the events and fundraisers go to a cause that will give my mom the hope of continued life. With that said, here are some of the events Birmingham is hosting this year to increase breast cancer awareness:

REVVIN’ 4 RESEARCH

October 4, 2015 | Harley Davidson (Pelham, AL)

For all you biker babes and dudes with road hogs, Harley Davidson is hosting an event this Sunday where you can bring your bike and ride from the Pelham location to the Trussville location and back with all proceeds going towards breast cancer research. Single ride tickets are $35 and 2+ tickets are $50. Visit their site to register and read more! 

UNCORKED! ON THE GREEN

October 10, 2015 | Ross Bridge (Hoover, AL)

This FREE event benefitting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama is held in conjunction with Arts & Music on the Green and will be held at Ross Bridge, 2101 Grand Avenue, Hoover, AL starting at noon. Uncorked! features craft beer tasting, fine wine sampling, live music, local and regional artists, and lots of food for sale! For more information about the event, click here!

SUSAN G. KOMEN RACE FOR THE CURE

October 17, 2015 | Linn Park (Birmingham, AL)

Walk or run a mile or a 5k with your team or as an individual for the 23rd annual Race for the Cure! The mile course begins at 10am and the 5k begins at 9am. Infomedia will be there with our team Slick Vick’s Super Supporters wearing our Infomedia breast cancer awareness t-shirts. Join us for a great time benefitting a great cause. Register here! “CALERA GOES PINK” GOLF TOURNAMENT

October 25, 2015 | Timberline Golf Course (Calera, AL)

A day of golf in the sweet, southern town of Calera along with food, friends, and fellowship. Grab a couple of friends and sign up to play in this tournament benefitting breast cancer awareness. $100 to play which includes green fee, cart, practice balls, snacks, beverages, a light dinner, and an awards ceremony. PINK PRIVATE SHOPPING NIGHT

October 25, 2015 | Summit Shopping Center (Birmingham, AL)

Join us at Belk at the Summit from 6:30pm-9pm for a private shopping extravaganza. Tickets are $25 and include special shopping deals, live entertainment, and food and drinks, and various door prizes. This isn’t one you want to miss! More info here!
