A company that calls itself Domain Registry of America is targeting domain owners with misleading letters and E-mails aimed at getting unwitting consumers to transfer their web domain registration to their company, a move that can have costly and devastating effects on their websites. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has cited the company for deceptive trade practices, but DROA is still in business, and is actively soliciting domain owners with fake “renewal notices” that are actually domain transfer contracts.
Our advice: DO NOT do business with Domain Registry of America under any circumstance. More info about the scam is available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Registry_of_America.
