Everything Your Ecommerce Site Needs to Thrive

An ecommerce site is an investment for your business. Especially with the holiday season right around the corner, you need to make sure that your ecommerce site has everything it needs to thrive. Keep reading for some must-haves.

Fast Site Speeds

There’s nothing more frustrating than waiting around for the website you need to load, and your customers feel the exact same way. A slow website is the easiest way to lose potential customers before they even see what your ecommerce site has to offer.

There’s more to website speeds than just customer experience though. A fast load speed also impacts how Google ranks your website, also known as your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) value. The higher your SEO value, the higher you’ll show up in Google search results!

Security and Encryptions

Next up on your ecommerce site checklist should be security measures. Your potential customers won’t make a purchase on a site that they don’t trust. This means that you should be taking website security seriously.

If your ecommerce site doesn’t include HTTPS encryption, then website visitors will be warned that your website is “not secure.” That’s a pretty quick way to lose your customers’ trust. The next thing you’ll want to check is your Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificate. Again, customers will be warned if your website is missing an SSL Certificate, or if it is expired. An SSL Certificate basically secures data for transfers and credit card transactions and payments. This is a major red flag to website visitors, and you’re all but guaranteed to lose website traffic and purchases because of it.

Analytics

Moving on to the next thing your ecommerce site absolutely needs — analytics! Site metrics are an invaluable tool when it comes to understanding how your website is performing. For example, you can check your website speed as we mentioned earlier.

Analytics and metrics also allow you to discover more about your customers, improving their customer experience. By looking at patterns, you can analyze your website visitors’ digital behavior.

Heat Maps

A heat map allows you to visualize how your website visitors engage with your ecommerce site by using a color overlay. This overlay shows mouse clicks, scrolls and taps. Similar to weather maps that you see all the time, darker colors mean more engagement and cooler colors mean less engagement.

Conversion Rates

The main purpose of your ecommerce site is to convert visitors to customers — right? By tracking conversion rates, you’re able to see how successfully your website is doing that. You might need to do a little bit of math, but just divide the number of purchases by the total number of visitors!
