Roll out the red carpet and break open the champagne — we’re celebrating because the website we designed with Douglas County, Colorado, placed in the Top Ten for digital innovations in the bracket for counties their size. We’re proud of the work we did on the county’s website, and we’re happy that the fantastic team from Douglas County is being recognized with such a respected award.
The 2016 Digital Counties Survey award is presented by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties. The award “identifies the best technology practices among U.S. counties, including initiatives that save tax dollars through newfound efficiencies; boost transparency, cybersecurity and engagement; or innovate through unique and exciting projects.”
When it came time to redesign their website, Douglas County didn’t want a simple facelift; they wanted to seriously reexamine how content was organized on their site and make it easier for citizens to find. Instead of organizing their menu by departments, which proved to be confusing to users, we redesigned the navigation to follow several themes so anyone using the site can find complementary information without hunting through confusing menus for it.
We also added a powerful Google Search to the site, so when the user is looking for a certain term, all references to that term on the entire website are listed instead of just the few, making it easier for users to find exactly what they’re looking for.
Douglas County is a safe, friendly and beautiful place to live — its citizens are already winners in our book. We’re proud to count them as clients and partners, and we’re happy that their hard work is being recognized by the Digital Counties Survey!
